Overview
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your AskNicely account by requiring both a password and a verification code from your authenticator app.
This guide walks you through enabling MFA for all users, setting it up, and what to expect during login.
How to Enable MFA in AskNicely
Go to Settings (cog icon) > Account > Settings
Toggle ON the setting:
“Enforce Multi-Factor Authentication for All Users”
What Users Will See on First Login After Enabling MFA
After MFA is enforced, the next time a user logs in, they will be presented with a setup screen that includes:
A QR code
A secret key
Instructions like:
“Please scan the QR code with your authenticator app. To verify your setup, please enter the current 6-digit authenticator code.”
“No QR code scanner? Please enter this secret key into your preferred MFA app.”
Setting Up Your Authenticator App
Users can complete MFA setup in one of two ways:
Option A: Scan the QR Code using your phone's camera or your authenticator app
-
Option B: Enter the Secret Key manually into your authenticator app
💡 Name the account something specific like “AskNicely” so it’s easy to recognize later.
Once setup is complete, the authenticator app will generate a 6-digit verification code.
Enter the code into the field on the AskNicely login page.
If the code expires, use the next one shown in your app.
Click the blue “Verify MFA” button.
Recovery Codes
After verifying MFA, AskNicely will present a list of recovery codes.
📌 Store these codes in a secure place. They can be used to access your account if you lose access to your authenticator app.
Logging In With MFA (Ongoing)
For all future logins:
Enter your usual AskNicely credentials.
You’ll be prompted to enter the latest 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
Optionally, check the box “Remember this device for 30 days” so you don’t have to enter a code every time.
Notes
Authenticator apps vary slightly. Please refer to your specific app’s instructions if you need help scanning the QR code or entering the secret key.
MFA applies to all users when enforced by the admin.
