Leaderboards and Filters are two of AskNicely's most powerful tools for slicing, dicing, and making sense of your survey response data. These tools allow you to uncover trends, compare segments, and visualize customer sentiment across key data points.
🧩 How Leaderboards & Filters Are Created
Every Leaderboard and Filter in AskNicely is automatically generated from fields that you import into the platform through your data source:
-
API
-
Third-party integrations
-
CSV files
Once imported, these fields appear on the Contacts page as part of each contact’s Custom Data.
Example
Take the contact Caity Nickleback:
-
Her Custom Data column includes the values:
Sales
,France
, andcsv
. -
Hovering over each value reveals its associated field:
-
Sales → Field Name:
Department
-
France → Field Name:
Country
-
csv → Field Name:
Import Source
(Note: This is an internal AskNicely field and won’t generate a Leaderboard or Filter.)
-
Now that Department
and Country
are imported, they will automatically appear as selectable Leaderboards and Filters on your Dashboard and Responses pages.
âž• How to Add More Leaderboards & Filters
To expand your filtering and leaderboard options, you’ll need to import more data fields via your connected data source.
📥 If You’re Using CSV Import:
-
Add more column headers to your spreadsheet.
-
Each column = a field
-
Each cell under that column = a value
-
-
Be sure to always include an Email (or SMS field for SMS surveys) in your CSV.
🔌 If You’re Using an API Integration:
-
Contact your Developer to include additional fields in the API call that sends contact data to AskNicely.
-
Imported fields will populate in the Custom Data section and be available as Filters/Leaderboards.
🛠️ If You’re Using a 3rd-Party Integration:
-
Open the App Store (storefront icon, lower left)
-
Search for your integration and follow instructions for importing additional fields (if supported)
âť— Note: Some integrations (e.g., Shopify) only allow limited field import.
In these cases, you can re-import contacts via the CSV Importer with extra fields as long as you include the Email or SMS column.

âž– Want Fewer Leaderboards or Filters?
If your dashboard feels cluttered or you want to simplify views:
-
Go to Settings > Data Management
-
Find the field you want to hide
-
Uncheck the “Visible” box on the right-hand side
đź”’ Hiding a field will not delete it. You can always re-enable it later.
