AskNicely's "Email Blocklist" feature allows you to prevent Contacts with certain email addresses from being imported into your AskNicely account. Many of our AskNicely Admins use this functionality to block their own company domain from being imported into their AskNicely account - you might also use this feature to block one of your contacts that explicitly wants to limit communications.
Blocklists are a very explicit and deliberate way of managing your list of Contacts. If you are looking to change Contacts statuses while preserving their data, you can learn about the options on the Contact Page by reading our article on How to Make Bulk Updates on the Contacts Page.
Setting Up Your Email Blocklist
You can find your email blocklist by clicking on the Settings icon (cog wheel) in the Navigation Banner on the left side of AskNicely. From there, you can click General > Email Block List.
It's important to understand that the Blocklist will only prevent an email address or domain from being added into AskNicely via CSV, API, or 3rd Party integrations. If the Contact already exists in your Contacts Page, they will need to be manually Unsubscribed or Deleted.
There are two formats that the Block List will accept: email addresses and full domains.
Email Addresses
A full email address consists of both a username and the hosting domain.
This will prevent a specific person from being added to your Contacts list. Unscrupulous individuals, or Contacts from a previous NPS campaign that you are aware would not like to be communicated or contacted can be placed on this list.
Keep in mind that this action will not prevent individuals from being manually added by using the
Add Contact
button on the Contacts Page.
Full Domains
A domain is the site that is responsible for processing the emails and hosting the email client.
Any email address that ends in the specified domain will not be added.
Additional Notes
- The blocklist does not apply to manually adding a contact from the Contacts page.
- AskNicely does not support blocking wildcards. If the blocked address is found anywhere in a Contact's email address it will block it.
- If troubleshooting why workflows aren't reaching certain Users or Contacts, check the Block List or download your Unsubscribed List from the Actions button on the Contacts Pgae
